So, what is Plauzible?
Like other password managers, Plauzible makes use of state-of-the-art encryption to protect your passwords. Sensitive details are encrypted client-side and no sensitive information is transferred to the server (if you opt to sync to the cloud) in clear text. Plauzible, however, goes a step further, offering both offline and networked modes. In offline mode, Plauzible stores your data on your local device only. In connected mode, Plauzible can make use of a cloud-based service to store your data. This allows you to access your records across multiple devices.
Both of these operating modes take further steps to protect your privacy. Details of what this means are outlined in the sections below.
Local-Only Privacy
In local-only mode, every time you create a record, Plauzible inserts a random number of fake records alongside your real ones. This prevents intruders from knowing how many entries are real, shielding your data. In addition, these extra records let you maintain multiple, separate record sets while plausibly denying their existence. If, for whatever reason, your local store ends up being compromised, there is no way to discern valid records from fake ones.
Remote Mode with Anonymity
When synced to the cloud, Plauzible stores encrypted data without linking it to individual user accounts. This ensures there is no identifiable relationship between users and the records they store, making it impossible to single out an individual user's records from the wider collection of records. This again allows you to maintain multiple groups of records while still being able to plausibly deny that you are doing so. In addition, it would be impossible to fulfill a forced request for just your personal data.
